The Story
Synopsis
When a teenage girl loses her family and a quiet boy is told he does not belong, one church must decide whether its faith has room for them.
Seventeen-year-old Charity Ali has grown up between two devout traditions: her father Shahid's Islam and the warm, welcoming home of the Christian family her parents trust. After a dinner at Pastor Green's house turns into a heated argument over faith and who is welcome in it, a drunk driver changes everything in a single night. Charity survives. Her parents do not. Pastor Daniel Green and his wife Sophia take her in, and she carries one thing with her from the wreck: her father's singed prayer book.
Across town, Jeremy Harris is also learning what it costs to be unseen. Raised by his grandparents, Deacon David Harris and Elana, he is a gentle seventeen-year-old who has kept a secret for years. At school he is bullied. At church, quiet conversations about "the situation" are already underway among the elders. As Charity begins to ask honest questions about grief, belief, and her own heart, a Wednesday night Bible study becomes a reckoning. A veteran deacon who has stood by one friend in the worst hours of his life must decide whether he will stand by his own grandson.
Told with warmth and without easy answers, Exuberant Faith is a story about people who love God and love each other, and who discover that those two things are sometimes hard to hold at once. It asks what a community owes to the ones it says it cherishes, and what becomes possible when we choose to see one another, listen without judgment, and remind the hurting that they are never alone.
